Recently, Camp Allen hosted the McGovern Medical School (formerly University of Texas Medical School) for their 40th annual freshman retreat! MMS has come to Camp Allen every fall since 1976, and our own Gloria Clepper, Director of Operations, has worked with them for 38 of those 40 years. The retreat is hosted by the sophomore class and the caring staff of MMS, all with the goal to orient the new freshman class on their first year at MMS. The retreat is complete with break out sessions lead by professors, skits by older students, and fun team building activities. Dr. Henry Strobel, a former professor at MMS, was part of the initial committee to create the retreat, and has organized it for the past 40 years. Though each new crop of roughly 350 freshman medical students admire Dr. Strobel for his knowledge and wisdom in the field, Clepper remarks that their affection for him goes deeper than just professor to pupil: "He's a leader and a friend to all of them, they really look up to him for guidance and counseling." We love this partnership with MMS and we admire the way they sculpt and care for our brilliant, soon to be medical professionals! The first retreat planning committee. UTMS has had hilarious skits in their programming since 1976. Comments are closed.
