about the program

Picture
With over 25 courses and 30+ instructional animals, the Discovery Program provides students with hands-on outdoor educational experiences that bring classroom learning to life. Students are divided into learning groups of 10-15 children per Discovery instructor to provide an optimal learning experience. Trips may range from half day to a multi-day overnight stay with customized schedules so every school can meet their goals. Review the brochure and program option links below for more information.

OUR FACILITIES
Camp Allen is located one hour northwest of Houston on 1,100 forested acres with rolling hills, five miles of trails, and two lakes. Facilities include a herpetology house, bird aviary, archaeology dig site, orienteering course, archery pavilion, challenge (ropes) courses, Discovery Education Center with mammalogy and entomology classrooms, turtle habitats, pigeon and chicken coops, an off-the-grid organic garden, sports fields, basketball and pickleball courts, parks, playgrounds, and pools.

WHO WE SERVE
Over 7,000 students and faculty participate in the Discovery Program annually. Last year, we served over 150 private, parochial, Montessori, public, and charter schools from across the state and beyond. Courses are adapted for all ages from elementary through high school. Camp Allen can accommodate 8-120 students at one time.

Camp Allen books field trips up to one year in advance, and the calendar does fill quick. We recommend booking your field trip at least 5 months in advance for optimal date options.
