abundant living 2017
Last week we were graced with the annual presence of Abundant Living retreat. Over 150 participants came to Camp Allen for this retreat that encourages participants to embrace aging as a spiritual journey and to live the gift of their years to the fullest. We partner with UTMB's Sealy Center on Aging to provide incredible opportunities for attendees to learn from geriatricians and doctors about topics highly applicable to this age group, including dealing with memory loss, dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease in oneself or loved ones. Discussing such with serious issues provides an emotional outlet, as well as encouragement for participants on how to care for friends who may be sick or struggling. However, the retreat isn't all about the serious issues, though all in attendance tackle those topics with vigor, strength, and the desire to make a difference in their community. Abundant Living is also an opportunity for older adults to unite with family and friends to learn lessons together on how to embrace their life stage and make a difference where they are, as they are. Fun activities are available as well, like workshops to pursue interests such as cooking, chances to enjoy passions like fly-fishing, and opportunities to try new things like archery. Additionally, guest can do other activities like canoeing, walking the labyrinth, nature walks, and more. With the socials, mingling, meal times, and mutual enjoyment of one another and the Lord, the conference center is a merry place during Abundant Living. We feel so blessed to host this group that honors the wisdom of age, while also seeking to provide deeper meaning to those in the later seasons of life and adulthood.
