In order to provide the best possible program for each school that attends Camp Allen groups will work closely with the Discovery Program Director to create a customized schedule. The Discovery Program's curriculum has been shaped to help students gain a well-rounded understanding of issues related to environmental respect, human relationships, and "real world" science and history. Some of the curriculum offered though this program are Aquatic studies, herpetology, mammalogy, conservation, outdoor living skills, and more. Today we are highlighting one of our favorites:
Texas Living History!
Texas Living History is when students assume the character of a member of a family traveling to the Austin's colony in 1830's Texas. Instructors from the Discovery Program portray historical figures from the time period and share skills and information during the students journey that will prove helpful when (and if) the pioneers reach the Austin Colonies. Some historical figures that may be portrayed during Texas Living History are: Jane Long, Sam Houston, Mary Rabb, Mary Austin Holley, Santa Anna, Davy Crockett, William "Big Foot" Wallace, Mary Maverick, and Gail Borden to name a few!
