behind the scenes: camp allen staff profile

Meet Navasota, Tx. native Josh Fultz. He is the Reservation Manager and Guest Service Manager at Camp Allen, or otherwise known as the man behind the booking confirmation emails and the friendly face who meets you in the lobby of the Conference Center when you arrive for your stay.

Having served at Camp Allen for 8 years, Josh has a great love for what he does here. The most "fulfilling" part of his job is “getting to actually see and interact with the same folks year after year.” Josh believes in the mission of Camp Allen because he is able to see the direct impact Camp Allen has on guests: “the best part about working here is that when guests come in, they leave excited to come back.” We are grateful that guests seem to love coming to Camp Allen as much as we love having them. Much of this is due to the hard work that Josh, and everyone else who works in guest services, does behind the scenes to make booking an event seamless and easy. Josh's heart is to serve and his leadership at camp reflects that. It's pretty simple for him: "I like to help folks."

Truly Josh’s entire being, both professional and personal, can be summed up by his passion for and desire to serve others. Sitting down with him and hearing his story is seriously inspiring and motivating. He has been volunteering since ten years old (fun fact: he became the youngest president of the Navasota Theatre Alliance at 17 years old). He lives a “life of service to other people” because that’s how he feels he can best contribute to the communities around him. This extends from Camp Allen to the city of Navasota, and most profoundly to his family. Josh's nine year old daughter, Jadyn, has special needs. As a special needs parent, Josh has come to know the deep value behind advocating for someone who can’t advocate for themselves. Josh's story with Jadyn is one of trial and reward. It is stifling to "be told that your kid is not going to hear, not going to write, to think, or pretty much do anything," but Josh "advocated so much more for her." Today Jadyn is "writing, reading, and thinking and can walk and talk... God is in control."

I walk away from our interview thinking about the importance of advocating for those who can't advocate for themselves. It's what Jesus did for us and I hope it's what I choose to do for others as I walk past fleeting moments in my every day life. Service isn't glamorous, but it is a worthy calling and community is worth the effort. Thank you, Josh, for being a part of the Camp Allen family and for sharing your story!
