King Solomon wrote the famous words, “grey hair is a crown of splendor.” We recently celebrated this idea at the 13th annual Abundant Living conference for aging adults and seniors. Abundant Living conference was started by Reverend Dr. Helen Appelberg in hopes of encouraging aging adults in fully embracing their stage of life, maximizing their impact, and just enjoying life more! February 29 - March 2, Camp Allen welcomed over 100 attendees for a few days of geriatrician lead seminars, cooking classes, fishing sessions, nature walks, happy hour socials, movie nights, fellowship and more.
The variety of activities is a huge draw for attendees. When we found Jan in the conference center, she was enjoying a slow afternoon of reading and processing what she’d learned in the seminar earlier that day. We met with Lemae at Lake Goddard as she threw a line out to catch some fish (and laughed about how earlier she had accidentally caught herself). We saw Charles learn a new way to make Asian Chicken that had our mouths watering. Yet, regardless of which activities each attendee selected, when asked about their favorite part of the event, they replied (after saying that the entire event was their favorite part) that “fellowship with others in the same life stage” was the biggest blessing. With the Redbuds blooming and the soft spring sun easing us into warmer afternoons, it truly was a beautiful few days at Camp Allen. All in attendance seemed to enjoy their time and we certainly loved having them. We look forward to many more years of Abundant Living! Comments are closed.
