What a wonderful night we had at the Junior League of Houston for the 16th annual Starry Nights and Campfire Lights back in October. We had a great turnout to raise funds for camper scholarships as well as support other programs and projects happening at Camp Allen. This was one of our top 3 best years in this "fun-raiser's" history!
Camp Allen was delighted to honor the Hamill Foundation at this year's gala. Founded in 1969 by Claud and Marie Hamill, The Hamill Foundation is among the ten largest foundations in Houston and has generously supported Camp Allen since 2008. "We support Camp Allen because it provides a faith based camping experience to thousands of youth during summer weeks plus it is a place for quiet renewal, Bible study, and respite for laity and pastors during fall and spring weekends." - Tom Brown, Foundation Grants Director. This night was definitely one to remember and that was due in part to Rev. Patrick Miller's head-turning entrance into the ballroom before carrying out his auctioneer duties. He walked in with a jazz band from New Orleans that played behind him and continued to play every time a donation was given. It definitely made for a fun and "live"-ly auction! This night would not have been made possible without our gala committee: Flo McGee, April and Wells McGee, Susan Lawhon Padon, Holli Kight, and Fran Tower. We are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported our ministry. Camp Allen would not be able to impact as many youth without your generous support!
