Rosalums: A Camp Allen Community

4/6/2020

Rosalums is Camp Allen’s alumni community that supports the summer camp program. The organization's purpose is to honor the legacy of the camp’s namesake and benefactress, Rosa Lum Allen (pictured below), by giving back to the summer camp program through volunteerism and fundraising efforts, and by fostering engagement of the camp alumni community through social and networking events.

What is Rosalums all about?

1.fostering Community

Rosalums would not be what it is today if it wasn't for the people. Community is what helps keep the joy that we all experienced while at camp alive. Camp Allen is a special place and we want to continue to feel connected to it even if our bedlam days are over.

Rosalums puts on numerous events throughout the year to help foster the community within this alumni organization. From happy hours, to fantasy football leagues, to fun dinners there is something for everyone at any age to enjoy.  By becoming a part of Rosalums you can reconnect with old friends and even make some new ones along the way.

2. GIving back to the future of camp

Rosalums desire is to give back to the summer camp program. The main way that we are able to do that is through fundraising & volunteer efforts put forth by our very own members. Becoming a member is one of the best and simplest ways you can show your support! The annual dues are utilized for putting on fundraising events which helps give back to the summer camp program and its campers. If you have any more questions about what becoming a member entails you can find more information here!

If you want to become more active within the Rosalums community you can do so by attending any one of our monthly events. Check out our Instagram or our Facebook page to stay up to date on upcoming events. Our biggest event of the year for Rosalums is the Volunteer Work Weekend. The goal of this weekend is to make it as easy and FUN as possible for you to come back to Camp Allen to spend time with fellow camp alumni  and give back to a place that is so special to all of us!  Whether you are young, seasoned, single, married,  or have babies/ kids,  there is a place for you!

You can also volunteer at any one of our Starry Nights events that are in May and October of each year. Camp Allen is known for being a place where lives are changed and leaders are made. The challenge is that many children from economically disadvantaged families and schools need financial assistance in order to be able to participate in the summer camp program. The mission of Starry Nights is to bridge this gap by supporting the camp’s Scholarship Fund which makes it possible for more children and youth to experience this beautiful place and the transformative experiences that we provide. We invite you to volunteer with us as we bring the mission of Camp Allen to Houston and Austin for an inspirational night full of fun!

A current  goal for Rosalums for summer camp 2020 is to provide bubble machines for every campsite so that everyone can partake in the fun! We got this idea from a session director who made their own bubble machine and brought it for their week of camp for campers to enjoy. After seeing how much they loved it we knew we had to make it permanent! To help with funding these bubble machines we have different Rosalums merchandise for sale like tshirts, PopSockets, and koozies.  You can check them out here!
