WILDERNESS STUDIES

Archery
After being instructed in the steps from preparation through reflection, students have the opportunity to practice international style target archery in an outdoor setting.  Discovery's archery instruction follows the curriculum developed by their partners Texas Parks and Wildlife and National Archery in the Schools Program.

Orienteering

Students will learn parts and effective use of a compass, then apply their newly acquired knowledge by negotiating one of Discovery's compass courses through the forest.

Outdoor Living Skills
This session promotes group cohesion and relational development.  A variety of activities led by experienced Discovery instructors will give students the chance to experience the reality of being in the wilderness on more than 1100 acres of natural pine and hardwood forests.  Variations of this course include outdoor cooking, wild edibles, and shelter building.

Canoeing
Students will learn proper stroke techniques, and then will practice their skills as they enjoy the scenic beauty from their tandem canoe.   We also offer Kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards for groups that are looking for a little bit more of a challenge.
